2016-2018 Southern Region Governor
I became a Soroptimist in 1999. My employer felt that it was important to give back to the community and to take a leadership role in an organization. They felt that there was tremendous value in doing so. Born and raised in Miami, I didn’t initially have those values instilled in me when I started my career.
To my surprise, Soroptimist has enriched my life greatly over the last seventeen years. I have met some incredible women and have made some lifelong friends. Friends that I know will always be there for me, through thick and thin; who are passionate about improving the lives of women and girls. I believe that all of us have a purpose in life. God is preparing me each and every day for my purpose and I’m so thankful that he has led me to Soroptimist. It is an honor being your Governor. The last time anyone in my club was Governor was more than 50 years ago. I know I have some big shoes to fill. There have been some incredible Governors in Southern Region that have come before me. Women filled with grace and professionalism and who have incredible knowledge and wisdom.
As I prepare for this journey, I pray that I will hold office with the same grace and professionalism as our previous Governors. One thing that I‘ve learned from the Homestead club is to have fun at what you do. Find something you’re truly passionate about and have fun while you’re doing it. That is what Soroptimist is all about.
In Soroptimist Spirit,
Governor Denise Held
